Lorin Neikirk
Aspergers Specialist, Author, and AspieFriendly Founder
Lorin Neikirk, founder of AspieFriendly, is a professional writer/author/illustrator, Aspergers Specialist / Autism Consultant, and creator of a great number of Aspie Friendly charts, forms, worksheets, and other productivity tools. A single mom to two teenaged sons, one of which who has Aspergers, Lorin is also an individual with Aspergers, explicating her talents and abilities as an Aspergers Specialist.
In addition to her work at the AspieFriendly consulting practice, writing, and creation of aspie friendly books, tools and resources, Lorin is also involved with a legislative effort called Advancing Futures for Adults with Autism, which includes contributions from Autism Speaks, and Easter Seals. On November 13th, 2009, Lorin Neikirk was asked by Easter Seals to participate in a historical event, hosted by Autism Speaks with AFAA, which created a National Agenda on Autism, to be submitted to congress in 2010.
North Texas Easter Seals' 2010 Annual Autism Event, which was held on April 19th, in Dallas, Texas, during National Autism Awareness Month, hosted an abundant resource fair and speaking event, at which Neikirk was honored to speak. Neikirk's previous speaking events include an educator staff event at Cy-Fair Independent School District, in preparation for the 2008-2009 CFISD school year. Neikirk explained the impact of the educational process, including issues such as class and homework, motivation factors, and the appropriate use of educational tools with autism spectrum students, and more specifically, as they relate to effective generalization between school and home.
