                              What do we do when kids become "too fixated"?

                              One of the classic signs of autism is "appearing to be deaf". The reason for this is that many times the focus of the spectrum individual's attention occupies so many resources that they have trouble pulling away from that interest. Of course, parents lament this behavior because is can interfere with daily life... but understanding why it happens is the first step to helping manage it and nurture those needs which are being fulfilled by the individual.
